Abstract:In China, the urban spatial expansion and new city construction is accelerated by the quick process of motorization and urbanization. Construction of regional transportation system will influence the land use pattern, housing, as well as employment distribution in a metropolitan. And the accessibility will have an impact to the mode of growth and the level of economic activity directly. It is essential to learn from the latest transportation plans for international developed metropolitan areas which have accumulated abundant experiences in the area of transportation planning when the transportation problems like traffic jams, traffic fatalities, and traffic pollution become serious in China. The latest comprehensive transportation plans from 35 international metropolitan areas were searched, reviewed, and studied. Their goals were organized systematically. The current situations of urban transportation development in China were analyzed and suggestions are proposed for conducting the comprehensive transportation plans.
